Massive Attack - Heligoland

These ten tracks (the eleventh is a remix so I’m disregarding it) of blissed out sounds are just begging to be the soundtrack of a bed-in love fest.  I am new to Massive Attack, but very impressed by what I’m hearing.  I was obviously aware of ‘Protection’, ‘Teardrops’ and ‘Unfinished Symphony’, but not much else.  Why didn’t anyone tell me what I was missing out on?!

This music is mellow. It draws you in and convinces you, you are one of the characters being sung about.  You can sleep to, dance to it, travel to it.  It’s diversity lies in its consistency, which is a rare thing.  The lyrics, though sparse, are prominent, but not so overpowering that the soundscape feel gets lost.  “You’re looking at stars that give you Vertigo, The sun’s still burning and dust will blow” and other such eerie lyrics compelled me to listen to this album three days in a row.  Just too good.

Stand out tunes: Pray for Rain, Girl I Love You, Paradise Circus.
